Friday's draw is a no-frills draw which does not rule out teams from the same country going up against each other.
One thing is set in advance, however, and that is the date schedule for the matches.
The first leg games will be played on 1st and 2nd April, with the return ties, on 8th and 9th of the same month.
Those fixtures could see anything from Spanish derbies between Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid and Barcelona, to clashes that some could be hoping for while others prefer not to think about.
Speculation mounts as the minutes tick by, everyone placing their bets and giving their opinions on who will be paired with whom.
The truth is that, in addition to the Spanish clubs, Pep Guardiola's Bayern and Jose Mourinho's Chelsea are being listed as ones to avoid.
The Germans are the team to beat, as the title defenders and with the presence of the Catalan coach on the bench. With regard to the Blues, however, there is a morbid fascination with who will go head to head with the 'Special One'.
Manchester United and Chelsea will represent the Premier League in the draw.
United overturned a 2-0 deficitagainst Olympiakos to book their spot while Chelsea overcame Galataray of Turkey.
The two English teams are expected to face stiff test in the quarter finals with champions Bayern Munich, and Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid impressing in the last 16.
Atletico Madrid, Paris St-Germain and Borussia Dortmund make up the eight.
Coach Pep Guardiola's Bayern remain favourites to retain their title after defeating another English club Arsenal 3-1 on aggregate.
Atletico Madrid, who lie second in the Spanish league, defeated seven time European champions AC Milan 5-1 over two legs.
Ligue 1 leaders Paris St-Germain have the potent strike force of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani.
German side Dortmund have had a mixed domestic season so far, but coach Jurgen Klopp's men have the experience of reaching last season's final.
