Ebola Epidemic Spreads To Conakry, Capital Of Guinea
There have been 66 people who were confirmed to have died from Ebola, all in rural areas. All of the cases that happened in cities were proven negative until today. The Health Minister of Guinea confirmed 4 deaths of Ebola in Conakry.
According to the Health Minister, Remy Lamah, the virus was transmitted by a man who came back after visiting Dinguiraye in central Guinea, which is pretty remote from the places of Ebola outbreaks. He showed symptoms of haemorrhagic fever. This man died shortly and his 4 brothers, who attended the funeral, started showing the symptoms and are now in isolation ward being tested for Ebola. They all have been tested positive. The whole family of that man is under quarantine too.
According to reports, the fact that Ebola spread to the capital of Guinea, 2 mln people, marks an escalation in the outbreak.
According to a virologist Ben Neuman, at Britain's University of Reading: “Ebola virus is one of the deadliest killers known.. If this virus spread between people more easily, it would probably be more deadly than the black plague. Fortunately, up to this point, it has not”
There are lots of different variationf of Ebola virus, each of which posessing different mortality rates. The kind that is suspected to be in Guinea is Zaire ebolavirus. The last time this kind was found was in 2009 in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with fatality rates almost as high as 90%.
For now there have also been suspected cases of Ebola in neighbouring states as Liberia and Sierra Leone.
Ebola is a fast-spreading disease that kills 25%-90% of those infected
