Haspel Spring/Summer 2014 Collection
Haspel, the iconic 104-year-old menswear brand famous for seersucker, is eschewing license partners and producing its first in-house collection since 1977, for spring 2014.
With two new designers at the helm, a newly invigorated Haspel is turning to lightweight layering for SS14. By enlisting Sam Shipley and Jeff Halmos – of Shipley & Halmos – the brand aim to maintain a refined, sartorial aesthetic throughout the warmer months.
With the more traditionally constructed formal look rendered in heavy fabrics, the pair are experimenting with their approach. Ultimately delivering quirky colour use, lightweight fabrics and playful styling.
As a brand, Haspel have successfully carried through their recognisable American heritage, whilst introducing more contemporary design features. Working in a fresh palette of summery blues and pink, this vibrant collection boasts effective layering and versatile detailing.
Checks, pocket squares and prints perform throughout the collection, adding further style and providing welcome focal points. Colour pops, courtesy of bold footwear, keeps the range young and playful; even adding an element of juxtaposition when paired with more traditional weaves and fabrics.
Proving that a suit has its place in any seasonal wardrobe, Haspel looks to be suggesting that the key is adapting. The full spring/summer 2014 lookbook can be found here.
