During last night’s 2-1 quarter-final win over Colombia, Neymar got injured on the 88th minute, when Colombia’s Juan Zuniga clashed into his back as they challenged for the ball.
Neymar laid on the grass for quite some time and was visibly in tears when he was carried off on a stretcher.
The little forward was later taken to hospital in Fortaleza.
Brazil Coach Felipe Scolari said: Neymar was going to be hunted. For three matches that has been happening and Not even a yellow card, nothing. People think Germany, these or the others, only they are hunted but not Neymar.”
Brazil’s team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar told to reporters:
“Unfortunately, he’s not going to be able to play. He is very, very sad. It’s not serious in the sense that it doesn’t need surgery, but he’ll need to immobilise it to recover.”
The Doctor revealed that the player will recover after some weeks, but not in time to participate in the tournament.
Neymar had been wonderful for the Selecao in this tournament leading their front line with four goals and has started all their games.
Meanwhile, Zuniga has come out to defend himself and said: “I never meant to hurt a player. It was a normal move. “I was playing for the shirt from my country, not with the intent to injure. I was just defending my shirt.”
Last night game started off with an early goal for the Selecao by Thiago Silva and then David Luiz scored a great free kick to double the advantage. Later, on the 80th, James Rodriguez scored his 6th goal of the tournament from the spot.
The earlier face off between France and Germany ended with the Germany’s victory. Hummels scored after leaving his marker Varane and nodding the ball over an out stretched Loris.
Brazil will also miss their captain Thiago Silva, who is suspended after picking up a second booking of the tournament in the match against Colombia. The final will be held at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday, July 13.
