Adamawa Lawmakers Impeach Governor Murtala Nyako

Latest news coming out of Adamawa State, northern Nigeria, indicate that embattled Governor Murtala Nyako has been sacked.
According to Premium Times, the governor was removed by the state House of Assembly some moments ago.
It was gathered that the governor was sacked after the lawmakers deliberated on a report submitted by an investigative panel that probed allegations of financial misconducts against him.
The committee submitted its report to the House on Monday, 14 July, 2014.
Seventeen of the 25 members of the Assembly adopted the report of the panel after Speaker Umaru Fintiri read the report on the floor of the House.
According to reports, the panel found the governor guilty of all the 16 allegations of gross misconduct leveled against him by the House.
It was gathered that the motion for the governor’s impeachment was moved by Jerry Kumdisi, the member representing Gombi state constituency.
The motion was seconded by Kwamoti Laori, the Deputy speaker of the Assembly and member, representing Numan constituency.
All the 18 members present at the meeting signed the resolution removing the governor.
The House also passed a motion that Speaker Fintiri should be sworn in as the state’s acting governor.
Earlier on Tuesday, 15 July, 2015, the state’s Deputy Governor, Bala Ngilari, was reported to have resigned from office to avoid being impeached.

Mr. Ngilari’s resignation letter was read at plenary by the speaker of the Assembly, Umaru Fintiri, after which the lawmakers approved it.
A source informed that there is high security presence on the road leading to the Assembly and inside the complex.
The source, who works with the Assembly, stated that only staff and journalists are being allowed access into the Assembly.
Commenting on the impeachment of Governor Nyako few minutes after the news broke, Nigeria’s former minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai went on his official Facebook page to post:
"JONATHANIAN IMPUNITY ENDANGERING THE NATION: Adamawa APC Governor Murtala Nyako impeached 10 minutes ago to pave way for a PDP Deputy Governor.
Nasarawa is next. Then Rivers and Edo. And President Jonathan thinks that all will be well while he violates the constitution and the law. We will see how it all ends. We have been there before!"
Below is how the former Director General of The Bureau of Public Enterprises posted his comment:

It could be recalled that Governor Nyako had said on 9 July, 2014 that he would ask for President Goodluck Jonathan’s help over his impeachment saga when the time comes.
"We have supported him all this time; he has supported us and in situations like these when Mr. President’s support is required, we will seek it," Nyako said while answering questions from journalists.
